the end of a module

END

honestly, i did learn a lot from this module,
and i'm glad that i can say that i'm proud of my works,
after much re-doing and re-doing.
as mentioned earlier, i wish i put in more effort in my portfolio design,
but so be it. =)
the past can't be erased lol.

hopefully, one can look at my portfolio,
and look at what i wrote
( since the the colour scheme of the pictures in this blog is screwed zz)
and smile at my pieces, and perhaps remember them =)
best thing, ever.

Christmas card! - final

sigh, usual note - the colour scheme is off -thanks to blogger.
I KNEW I SHOULD HAVE USED WORDPRESS.

lol anyway, enough of angsty-ing, basically i re-vamped my card.

and again, my tutorial mates' work are so much simple and pretty.
i know the emphasis on this assignment is the colour scheme,
and about that point, the un-vamped assignment,
the one i presented in tutorial is probably better. sigh..

but honestly,
i rather do a memorable pretty card which will make people happy.
my guy friend told me that if he received such a card from a friend,
he will really smile. =)

i baked real gingerbread man, child, christmas, dogs, stars,
and took different kinds of shots and to see which was best!
this was the nicest! sometimes simplicity is best lol. not too much stuff crammed into one card.
it's a shame i was rushing for the electronic deadline,
if not i would have probably added a small picture,
of a gingerbread dog at the back of the card.
oh well, maybe it's for the best. no clutter.

=) but actually i thought my unvamped card was pretty as well.
we can't have the best of both worlds, can we?

there's a sense of regret, actually.
my portfolio was hastily done.
there was so much more to my works i could have brought out.
actually, during the holidays, i think i might go and re-do my portfolio,
with better drawn sketches, with more reflections, elaborations and detail.

the portfolio doesn't do justice to my works, really.
to the effort i put in, the aesthetics, everything.

and random, i really do like shariff's card! it's imaginative, simple and everything.
i would so buy it. =)

STORYBOOK FOR CHILDREN

LOL anyway i can't upload the storybook pictures!
it's in pdf format zzz.
lol hopefully my words can paint a hundred pictures then.

anyway, my part in the project was to write the words,
i tried to use a bit of dialogue to make it more personable,
and a bit of alliteration here and there,
for the rhythmic effect,
used sound effects as well, such as ' woof woof' kind.

my group's story is about how boy roy and his dog woof used to bully cats,
but one day, he turned into a cat, and got bullied by the entire world.
then a cat used to bully was nice to him, then he reformed etc etc,
and TADA, nice boy roy. =)

haha oh well, it's cute, the storyline is cute, illustrator graphics,
and it's simple yet funny in a sense heh.

POSTER - FINAL

okay the colour fuck up is so detracting the beauty from my poster wtf.
esp when i like my poster so much LOL.
anyway, my new poster!

my friend went to vietnam and took like a thousand photos,
i looked through all of them, and i saw this gorgeous photo which i thought would be perfect!
i asked him permission to use the photo and VIOLA,
STOP WILDLIFE CAPTIVITY. =)

i didn't overly edit the photo,
because i thought the photo was enough of a marker,
i just zoomed in a bit to capture the full effect of hand and expression.
i just added words at the bottom, under a semi opaque layer of black.
fiddled around with margins and white borders, at siti's suggestion.

i'm glad i re-did my poster, actually. =)
because honestly, i really like it. i think it's gorgeous,
because it capitalizes on the beauty of the photo,
which directly addresses the problem of wildlife conservation.

Gestalt Principles

the two posters! i chose and did the presentation slides for the first one, the 'bad' poster,
while thomas did the 'good poster', but didn't manage to make it for tutorial so i had to present his part lol.
had problems choosing a bad poster initally,
cause i tended to see the good in posters, instead of the bad.
oh well, if anyone is REALLY interested in what me and thomas wrote,
email me and i'll email you our presentation slides XD

Assignment one - My Name is/LOVE/HATE

................................
i really don't understand why the colours are SO off!
SERIOUSLY. the red in spongebob is in theory, and in my portfolio DARK BLUE. WTF.

anyway, i hope the amendments i made to my work are clear enough!=D
i basically redrew the entire thing, made spongebob and patrick smaller,
so my name would stand out.
THANK YOU ANDY for voluntarily lending me your wacom tablet!
seriously things were made so much easier, and i could hand draw and write.

used my terrible handwriting to write for spongebob, figuring that the ugliness would accurately convey my hate of spongebob and friends.

hoped the literal metaphors was clear, that spongebob was getting burned,
had a python wrapped around him, and the snake in mention was about to bite patrick and so on.

and for the phoenix, i just altered the outline a bit, made it bolder and stronger,
and made the entire name smaller, a border,
and the wings for 'L' opaque!' =)

=( gosh, but the colours..
thank goodness the colours weren't altered when i printed everything out though.
if not i would faint on the spot.

haha rushed all my changes when i realized we had to hand everything in the z drive,
and that we couldn't make further changes.
sigh, gosh i hate deadlines, but without them i wouldn't do anything.
stagnation.

Christmas card - draft

the middle of the card           the back of the card

The front of the card!
the colour scheme

again - usual note - colours are screwed up sigh.

honestly, the soft pretty colour effects i spend ages doing is all lost when i put these up on my blog.
how unsatisfying, seriously.

oh well, anyway ,my card!
as usual, the theme in the class is beautiful simplicity,
and i have to go the more complicated route blah.

went to research on gingerbread,
and how to draw them, drew them, scanned and put together a card.
time really flies when you use photoshop.

sigh i have a penchant for doing last minute work,
and yet i insist on doing it with such detail. WHYYYY.

anyway, feedback from the class went that it was nice and rather convenient,
that the middle of the card had writings and greetings -
saves the trouble of writing a actual christmas greeting LOL.

and from siti, i should put in more effort in the colour scheme zzz.
sometimes, i don't understand the requirements.
so yeah, hierarchy and grades. i may be re-doing the card,
so i'll try to improve, perhaps.
decisions, decisions.
should i re-do?

PICTURE STORY- draft and final

nine photos used!
my story -
outline -
there's chocolate,
two kids want it,
they fight OVER IT, but TADAAA A MONSTER COMES
AND STEALS IT FROM THEM MUAHAHAHA.
lol, yea, seriously that's the plot.
IT'S SO CUTE LOL.
thanks to amanda for lending me her plushies!
people are hard to manipulate,
and it's difficult getting the facial expression you want.
so i thought i'll be different, and try using plushies instead.
=) and i'm glad i did heh. only thing im worried about is that there's not enough of a twist...
as what my tutorial mates pointed out..
but amanda and her plushies are in london now. X_X
so won't be re-doing, i have my hands full with assignments as well!
-Lisaa

Assignment two - Abstraction final

again, the colours of my works on this blog is messed up sheesh. annoys the hell out of me.

haha looked at the last picture till i got a clear idea of what was a pictogram.
was a tad confused for a while.

sigh, but yeah i don't know why i seem to keep complicating things for myself.
my work tends to be more complicated = hell lot of work,
while i see others breeze through with simplistic, pretty designs.

anyway, the colour problem is still, as always persisting.
i wonder if it's a safari problem. hmmm...
anyway, this is my final piece for assignment two!

didn't make much changes to the piece i presented, really. cause it was fine.

i just changed the final stage of the abstraction to make it even more 'abstract',
got rid of the butt and breasts and some stuff.
i kept zooming in and out, and finally decided on that.

picked the second one! it was abstract, but not overly so,
and the point is conveyed. the colours i used i think accurately conveyed the point, which was red.
beware of molesters!

but yeah the picture was complicated, so what i saw others do zzzzz.
oh and i'm glad that my piece was interesting!=) like assignment one.
i do sincerely like my works lol. but yeah, being completely biased as usual.

Poster -draft

haha i honestly hope you think i don't have such bad colour coordination.
colour problem courtsey of blogger. i wish i knew how to fix it geh. =
anyway, reflections - i think this is a badly done poster. esp in relation to others.
i had no ideas whatsoever, and time was running out. sigh.
basically this is to prevent colon cancer - this is damn direct -
using healthy students to promote drinking more h2o and vegetables,
to prevent the disease.
sigh, this assignment has so much potenial.
i just wish i could maximise it. thank god i can redo it in the future,
once ideas hit me.
in tutorial i told siti i had full intention of changing it,
so feedback wasn't needed lol.
then surprisingly she became really encouraging and went ' this poster isn't so bad!, see, you must have put in thought into the colour coordination, that blue represents water, red for colon cancer...' and etc.
laugh how sweet! =)
but yeah, it's bad.

Assignment two!

inspired by the recent molestation incident in nus! =))
i was seriously stuck for a while, came up with ideas in the library,
such as lappie charger here,
napping area here,
and a couple of others, but they were SO COMMON ZZZZZ.

i was still mulling over what to do at home, day before tutorial,
and i flipped the newpaper page!=D
and etc etc etc i went to work on it asap heh.
finished product! note- again the colour is off due to unknown technical glitches in blogger.
it looks way better in tutorial heh. colours used - red for warning, and black and white.
picked the second last one cause i thought it was clearest,
any more detail and it'll become damn gay/ look like a dance scene.
this assignment was surprisingly easy to do, just slowly remove detail.
hmm but i was worried for a while cause most people in tutorial didn't even bother much with the picture, and jumped straight to black/white/another colour and a clear pictogram,
I tried to keep the removing of detail consistent instead. oh well. still, not bad. =)
comments in tutorial by siti were that perhaps the last stage could be more abstract,
as supposedly the last piece is not even supposed to make sense. -.-
sometimes the requirements in our course is honestly a tad weird.
anyway so i'll just make changes to the last picture,
and leave it at that. next assignment!

OMG HOW COME THE COLOURS LOOK SO DIFFERENT WHEN I PUT THEM UP!!
ESP FOR THE TWO PHOENIX!!
no seriously it's a 500 degree change!
the colours i used were so much softer and prettier and adorable!!
they were fine when i printed them out though...-frowns-
i wonder how come..seriously.

okay that only applies for the second phoenix though.
the first phoenix is a bit dark and angst-filled, the colours for that piece isn't showing...

i still had time before tutorial and just sort of anyhow-ed did another phoenix.
haha extra time's good. just took a while. but nah, i still like the second phoenix, which is the first i did. sentimental value!

HAHA I WAS SO TEMPTED TO PUT 'LIZ' INSTEAD OF LISA.
=D

but FINE that'll be way too lazy of it. i was thanking my lucky stars right from the beginning that my name is simply, Lisa. four letters!

and large jpeg files take FOREVER TO UPLOAD ZZZZZZZZZZZ.

oh and feedback from the classmates + tutor -

-nix the first phoenix,
-the colours used for the second phoenix is nice =D HOW WASTED IT CAN'T BE SEEN HERE
- THE WORST THING IS THAT THEY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT MY NAME.
about that i was superfied and horrified, but yeah now that i think about it, it makes sense.
i wasn't exactly keeping this whole issue of my name being clear while i was doing it.

oh well, amendments.

haha and MY TUTOR is, how do i put it...
cuttingly nice. she isn't the sort of tutor which i thought all tutors for this mod would be.
you know, being nice, and going ' good effort.'
she's direct, to the point, and critiques. ah but i think overall in this mod,
there's too much emphasis given to the focus of the work,
and not to overall aesthetics.

oh and quite a few classmates picked spongebob as the design which they remembered the most, one picked the phoenix =)

that's my aim, actually.
as in, marks are one thing, but i rather much create something which people remember.

sigh. honestly, i can see myself struggling with this module in the future.
pride, and all that lol.

Assignment 1 - I HATE/SPONGEBOB ( part one)

SPONGEBOB!=D
haha another sketch i'm not changing.
i like it, after i sketched a few variations, with spongebob getting 'steamboated' and etc.
but yeah, added patrick to represent the 'A'. looked around the other (retarded) characters such as the bacteria ( WTF) and some female fish,
but yeah patrick seems the easiest to manipulate.
drawing now is fine, i predict all the problems will come when i photoshop though.

and i'm really bloody clueless about illustrator,
despite going for the workshop. -___-||
okay my photoshop is no better.
but according to my friends and lecturer, it supposed to be simple.
live trace or something, then add in colour.

hmm, having vaguely mixed feelings about reflection now.
i mean, it's silly to force someone to have to reflect, for the sake of grades.
but of course, there's always a point in encouraging people to think critically about their work.
but yeah, but this, but that.

Assignment - MY NAME IS/ I LOVE ( part1)

My name is  Lisa and i Love Phoenix!
i actually checked and the plural of phoenix is phoenix, and not phoenixes. - GRASPS-

heh, my outline is pretty!
laugh the bad thing about me is that i do have a propensity not to change anything when i decided on it. -__-|| and i sketched a rough sketch of this in lecture,
and no matter, i'm not changing, even if i have to draw other stuff to show that i thought of other stuff.
but i think this should be fine.
they wouldnt bash it during tutorial, my classmates ain't that mean lol. i think.

GEH.

it's nearly one am.

damn it, photoshop.

then again, it hasn't been that bad when you've a guiding hand by your side,
someone learning with you. =)

Musings, even before my first tutorial. ._."

AH finally got to creating this blog for my module.
for a communications and new media student,
i sure ain't that technologically inclined sigh.

there definitely will be a steep learning curve for photoshop and illustrator.
oh well, my friends'll guide me,
soI believe i'll somewhat learn how to clumsily handle these two applications.
laugh, i really don't know what to expect from this module.
it seems so bloody interesting, and yet i'm positive it'll give me nightmares.
haha, i ought to lower my expectations so nothing disappoints. basic mandate of life, no?

ah I better doublecheck what is expected of this blog though,
so nothing particularly redundant finds its way here.
reflections, the final product, prelimary sketches?
haha oh well, i'll use it as an emotional/sketches/assignments dumping ground.
basically, anything and everything concerning this module.

AHHHH i need to learn how to scan ,damnit.
geh, and i better add a picture on the sidebar ( if that's what it's called)
as some sort of visual marker for my tutor lol.
